On March 22nd, 2026, scientific research task seminar on efficient utilization of agricultural water resources was held in the Institute of Dryland Farming in Hengshui City, with over 30 scientific researchers and young doctors from relevant research groups participating in the seminar. MEI Xurong, former Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), Director of the National Technical Innovation Center for Comprehensive Utilization of Saline-Alkali Land, paid a visit at Hengshui Experimental Station of the National Key Laboratory for Efficient Utilization of Agricultural Water Resources for a special discussion on collaborative scientific research. Vice president ZHANG Qiang from HAAFS accompanied the inspection.
MEI emphasized in the seminar that it is necessary to base on the strategic positioning of the State Key Laboratory, intensify the construction of experimental stations and scientific research tasks, closely link national strategies with local advantages, focus on major needs such as regional water resource constraints, food security guarantees, and comprehensive management of groundwater over-extraction, accurately condense scientific issues, and conduct targeted research to provide solid scientific and technological support for regional food security and groundwater pressure reduction. In addition, it is important to strengthen team collaboration and complementary advantages, deepen data resource sharing and in-depth mining and utilization, and jointly improve research quality and innovation efficiency.
On March 23rd, researcher MEI and his team visited the dryland water-saving agricultural experiment station for a field inspection. They focused on investigating the progress of drought resistance identification and long-term fixed-location experiments on water-saving technologies, and provided guidance on experimental design and research directions.
The seminar further clarified the path and direction for deepening cooperation between both parties, laying a solid foundation for the high-standard construction and high-quality development of the Hengshui Experimental Station of the National Key Laboratory for Efficient Utilization of Agricultural Water Resources.
