From October 25th to 28th, 2023, President ZHANG Tielong led a delegation of HAAFS to attended the 7th Global Forum of Leaders for Agricultural Science and Technology in Sanya, Hainan.

This forum is jointly hosted by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the People's Government of Hainan Province, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the Consultative Organization for International Agricultural Research, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and others. The theme is “ Science and Technology Leading the Transformation of Global Agri-food Systems”, and the forum is focusing on major global issues and promoting agricultural technology cooperation based on national strategic needs. Over 580 domestic and foreign representatives from government departments, agricultural research institutions, and 15 international organizations from more than 50 countries around the world participated in the conference for exchange and discussion.

During the forum, President ZHANG Tielong actively communicated with experts from Wageningen University &Research Center in the Netherlands and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Uruguay, establishing new channels for HAAFS to carry out international exchange and cooperation.Meanwhile, he had in depth contact with Professor Felix Dakola, former President of the African Academy of Sciences, and Mr. Light Litha Magingxa, Chairman of the South African Agricultural Research Council, to discuss scientific research exchanges and cooperation between China and Africa in areas such as water-saving irrigation, biological control, and efficient crop cultivation technologies. In addition, HAAFS exchanged views with Vice President Asfaliza Binti Ramli of the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute on further promoting practical cooperation between the two sides. Through this forum, we will further expand and consolidate our scientific and technological cooperation with foreign research institutions.
