On March 31, 2023, the "Soil Pest Detection Technology and Application Seminar", sponsored by the Scientific Research Management Department of HAAFS and organized by the Institute of Plant Protection, was successfully held at the Institute of Plant Protection. More than 30 experts and related personnel participated in this seminar.

The director of the Scientific Research Management Department, LIU Mengchao, emphasized the importance of platform resources cooperation and sharing within HAAFS, expressed the hope to improve the utilization rate of the HAAFS' platforms through such seminars, strengthen communication and cooperation among affiliated institutes, jointly plan and apply for higher level projects, and promote the research and development of new technologies and products.

Dr. WANG Peipei, Director of the Soil Pest Molecular Detection Center, introduced the research and development background, hardware facilities, technical advantages, and external services of the center. Dr. DONG Lihong reported on the establishment of quantitative detection technology for soil pathogenic bacteria and the construction of a disease risk warning system. The attending experts discussed how to collaborate around the soil pest molecular detection center based on their own research direction. After the meeting, the expert team visited the center.

The Soil Pest Molecular Detection Center of the Institute of Plant Protection is the only large-scale platform in China that conducts high-throughput quantitative detection of important soil borne pests. It conducts quantitative detection of soil pests for agricultural technology promotion departments and scientific research institutions nationwide, provides basic data for early warning of important crop soil borne diseases and pests, provides a basis for crop species layout and scientific use of disease and pest resistant varieties, and technical support for effectively reducing the harm of crop soil borne diseases and pests, and reducing the application of chemical pesticides.

This seminar recommended the platform of the Soil Pest Molecular Detection Center of the Institute of Plant Protection to experts from various research institutes affiliated with HAAFS, allowing them to understand the functional role of the platform and promoting cooperation and sharing of the HAAFS' innovative platform. Through in-depth exchanges between different research fields among institutes, their research ideas were broadened, laying a foundation for seeking deeper cooperation.
