In order to give full play to the important supporting role of the sweet potato industry in ensuring food security and efficient replanting of abandoned land, and help the high-quality development of the sweet potato industry, field inspection and evaluation of the project “Display and Selection of New Sweet Potato Varieties in Lulong County” was conducted.

The sweet potato industry in Lulong County has a good foundation, but most of the planting technologies are extensive management and variety simplification in Lulong, which can no longer meet the needs of industrial development. With the strong support of relevant projects of the national sweet potato system, the research group of the Institute of Cereals and Oil Crops introduced 58 high-quality new sweet potato varieties in Lulong demonstration base. Among them, 35 are fresh type and 23 are starch type. The healthy virus-free seedlings are planted in the base, and the growth period also has strict requirements in light and simplified green production, integrated management of water, fertilizer and medicine, disease and pest control, etc.

Through the field production measurement and boiled sweet potato taste quality identification, 7 varieties which suitable for local cultivation were comprehensively evaluated, including 4 starch sweet potato varieties with fresh potato output of more than 3000 kg/mu, and 3 fresh food varieties with good marketability and cooked food taste, laying a good industrial foundation for the subsequent large-scale planting and sweet potato brand building in Lulong County and its similar sweet potato producing areas.
