On October 24th , a promotion meeting was held by the Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops for new sweet potato variety Jiyuan 1 at Nanwang base in Dingzhou City. The base is a demonstration site for new varieties and technologies of sweet potato of the cooperative projects between Dingzhou City and HAAFS. More than 20 representatives from more than 10 sweet potato related enterprises attended the meeting.

The meeting was hosted by MA Zhimin, the director of sweet potato laboratory of Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops. SI Jianxun, the manager of the base introduced the general situation of the production management of the demonstration field of new sweet potato varieties. Researcher MA Zhimin introduced in detail the characteristics of Jiyuan 1 and its production performance at demonstration sites in Xingtang, Lulong, Qinglong and Jinzhou. At the meeting, the yield was estimated at 2644.46kg/667㎡ and the commodity rate at more than 95%. The cooking and baking quality of Jiyuan 1 produced in different places were evaluated on the spot.

Jiyuan 1 was the latest sweet potato variety released by the sweet potato research team of the Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops and the registration certificate was obtained in June, 2022. The average yield in the breeding tests from 2017 to 2020 was 3000.23 kg/667㎡, the average yield of dried sweet potato was 730.33 kg/667㎡, the starch content was 14.83% and the protein content was 12.34%. It has characteristics of high yield, high quality, high resistance to root rot, resistance to nematode, resistance to black rot, tolerance to continuous cropping, good root tuber shape and high commodity rate, and it is suitable to be popularized as fresh sweet potato.

The on-site observation and tasting of Jiyuan 1 was highly praised by the participants and they all agreed that Jiyuan 1 had a good market prospect and expressed their willingness to cultivate and promote.
