On site observation of early maturing apple varieties in Institute of Shijiazhuang Fruit Research of HAAFS

In August 2022, the apple innovation research team of Hebei modern agricultural industrial technology system successfully held the on-site observation activity of early maturing apple variety in the Institute of Shijiazhuang Fruit Research. This activity was conducted by 19 varieties and 8 new excellent lines from different production areas such as Xingtai, Shijiazhuang, Hengshui, Baoding and Qinhuangdao in Hebei Province, with a total of 51 early maturing apple samples competing in the same time.


Expert Li Xueying introduced the characteristics of each sample one by one. The expert group comprehensively evaluated the appearance and internal quality of the fruit of each variety (line) through on-site evaluation. Subsequently, experts and fruit farmers observed the cultivation and growth of the outstanding 'Jiping No. 1', the excellent line '8-2-36' and the excellent line '22-90' on the spot. Li introduced in detail the excellent characteristics of 'Jiping No. 1'. The fruit is conical, the fruit surface is bright and clean with bright red striped, the flesh is crisp and juicy, the flavor is sour and sweet, the taste is sweet, and the soluble solid content is more than 14%.


In recent years, the research team has selected and bred a series of apple varieties with different maturity, which has made contributions to enriching apple variety types and promoting the adjustment of apple variety structure. At the same time, the regional characteristic planning and layout of apple varieties in the province were carried out to break the regional homogeneous competition and promote the high-quality, efficient and sustainable development of the apple industry in our province.
